Well with a few notable exceptions you certainly can’t accuse the girls on the red carpet of the 52nd Grammy awards of understated elegance.Most looked like they were trying to compete with Lady Gaga in a weirdness competition. Amongst those that did get it right were Melody Thornton from the Pussy Cat Dolls who for once did not have it all out on show but just looked fabulous. Have you been invited to a Valentines ball and are not really sure what to wear?  Well here are a few pointers.

 The obvious one is to wear red but be careful on the shade, bright red can be a bit garish especially on blond’s with pale skin.  A better option might be plum or burgundy as these are more forgiving. A great colour this season would be purple as not only does it look stunning on most people its very on trend.

Now what about the great debate over long or short. For Most “Balls” there will be a cross section of both, and so its down to personal preferance and what looks good on you. You will probably find that there will be everything from cocktails dresses to ball gowns so its about what you feel comfortable in. Remember you are never over dressed everyone else is under dressed !
